Mat Orrego has worked in the software industry for the past 16 years as founder and president of Cornerstone Information Systems.
Mr. Orrego graduated from the Kelly School of Business with a degree in finance in 1985. In 1987, he switched his career from the financial to the travel industry and joined Gant Travel Management where he supported the MIS functions of the company. In 1990, after having acquired the source code of a GDS based communications tool, he began developing the technology to interface to the Apollo reservation system. In 1992, Mr. Orrego and Gant’s President and owner, D.G. Elmore Jr , entered into a partnership to form Cornerstone Information Systems. Cornerstone’s main focus was to productize the technology created for Gant Travel and offer it to the travel industry. Today, Mr. Orrego is recognized as a pioneer in the development of mid-office platforms for the travel marketplace. He and his company have serviced some of the largest providers of travel services in the industry, such as American Express, Galileo International, United Airlines and over 650 other companies in the travel industry.

He led a series of acquisitions that allowed Cornerstone to become a market leader in its space with iBank and iQCX becoming some of the most recognized technology brands in the travel industry. Mr. Orrego is a frequent speaker at travel industry events and is known as a subject matter expert on travel technology and industry operations. He was recognized as a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year in 2004.
