New York, NY (March 11, 2008) -- The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) today presented its 2008 Alan Fredericks Business Travel Journalism Award to Susan Avery, Senior Editor, Purchasing magazine. Avery was honored because her coverage of business travel trends and developments over the last year has helped purchasing managers and procurement professionals better understand the travel services sector. The award was presented at the NBTA Business Travel Financial Forum, held today in New York to give participants “A Wall Street Look at the Business of Business Travel.”

NBTA Executive Director & COO, Bill Connors, CTC, said, “Susan’s readers play an increasingly important role in the corporate travel industry. About a third of travel managers now report into Procurement, and even those who are in other departments are working more closely with their Procurement colleagues. Susan has ramped up Purchasing magazine’s coverage of business travel over the last year, including the addition of a new monthly column on the subject -- helping her readers better understand the challenges and joys of travel purchasing.”

Purchasing Publisher, Kathy Doyle, said, “We are very proud of the reporting Susan has done in this critical area.” Chief Editor, Paul Teague, added, “She has brought to this coverage the same high journalism standards she applies to all her assignments, and our readers and website visitors are benefiting from her efforts.”

The NBTA Alan Fredericks Business Travel Journalism Award is awarded each year to recognize the important role of media in the business travel industry by honoring an outstanding travel journalist or editor whose work over the last 12-18 months has done the most to enlighten corporate travel professionals, the business community, and/or the general public about important topics is business travel, and has done so in a way that is generally beneficial for and supportive of the industry.
