Alexandria, Virginia (November 6, 2007) - The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) announced today that Dr. Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System, would speak during the Wednesday General Session of the 2008 NBTA International Convention & Exposition, to be held July 27-30 in Los Angeles.
Greenspan served for more than 18 years as the Fed Chair, a position for which he was appointed by four U.S. Presidents. He also served as Chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee, the System’s principal monetary policymaking body. In those roles he was widely viewed as one of the most influential economists and economic policy makers in the world. During his tenure, Greenspan is credited with effectively guiding the U.S. economy through the October 1987 stock market crash, often called Black Monday, and the dot-com boom and bust. His influence is seen by many as contributing greatly to the United States’ relative economic stability and prosperity from 1987 through 2006. Greenspan’s speeches and writings continue to be highly influential.
NBTA President & CEO, Kevin Maguire, CCTE, commented, “Alan Greenspan’s insights into the state of the world economy and future economic expectations will provide NBTA Convention attendees a framework for thinking about business travel trends. I look forward to learning from the session, and I’m pleased to say Dr. Greenspan’s appearance is one more reason the NBTA Convention will be the business travel event of the year.”
Greenspan’s appearance at the NBTA Convention is made possible by the sponsorship of TRX, a global leader in travel technology. Trip Davis, TRX President & CEO, will moderate the Greenspan session, which will be presented in a question-and-answer format.
Davis commented, "We are very excited to help bring a significant and influential speaker like Alan Greenspan to the NBTA Convention. I am personally excited to lead and facilitate an engaging General Session with him. So much of what we experience in the corporate travel industry depends on global economic factors. Dr. Greenspan's insights will be invaluable to all attendees."
Greenspan currently heads Greenspan Associates, a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. He has served as a director for numerous corporations, including J.P. Morgan & Co., Inc.; Mobil Corporation; Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa); General Foods Corp.; and Capital Cities/ ABC, Inc., and he was Chairman and President of Townsend-Greenspan & Co., Inc., an economic consulting firm. He served as Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers under President Ford, and has served on numerous national advisory boards and commissions, including as Chairman of the National Commission on Social Security Reform. He has also served as Chairman of the Conference of Business Economists, President and Fellow of the National Association of Business Economists and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association.
