NBTA Pleased that Budget Would Not Raise Passenger Security Fee

President Bush’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2008 would not raise the air travel security fees paid by air travelers in the United States. After the past two proposed budgets have included such increases, NBTA worked successfully to have Congress reject the proposals. “NBTA members know that air travel security is national security,” said NBTA President & CEO, Suzanne Fletcher. “We are pleased to see the President’s 2008 budget proposal recognizes the fact that air security is a national priority and should be funded as much as possible through general funds, not by increasing user fees.  We appreciate that the Transportation Security Administration has made strides in getting the most productivity from its existing workforce to facilitate the screening process for air travelers.  Such improvements make further taxes unnecessary.”
