Baltimore, MD (November 17, 2005) – The National Business Travel Association (NBTA), the premier education association in the corporate travel industry, is hosting a day-long seminar in Baltimore today to educate travel professionals on crisis management and contingency planning.  The course is an elective for NBTA’s Certified Corporate Travel Executive (CCTE) program, the industry’s only professional designation.

Kristi Long, CCTE, Senior Director of Education and Research for NBTA, commented, “Crisis management and contingency planning is a vital function carried out by today’s travel managers.  Recent world events, including the 2005 hurricane season, airline bankruptcies and threat of a potential outbreak of the avian influenza, have placed even more emphasis on the importance of having a strong plan in place to protect travelers and company interests.”

The session will focus on building the foundation of a crisis management and contingency plan, integrating the plan into an organization’s overall risk management policies, testing the effectiveness of the plan and gaining support from company decision makers to implement and maintain the plan.  Attendees of the session will gain the knowledge, tools and experience to successfully weave risk management into their daily processes.  This will help them ensure that they are providing the highest level of care to travelers and limiting any potential liability to the organization.

To earn the CCTE designation, participants must complete two Core Week sessions lasting five days each, pass an exam following each of those sessions and take five one-day electives. The program is designed for business travel management professionals who want to enhance their knowledge, skills and productivity. Carried out in conjunction with the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, CCTE is recognized throughout the corporate travel industry as a designation of excellence and professionalism.

Upcoming CCTE programs include:

  • Elective -- Employee Performance Management, December 7, 2005, Salt Lake City
  • Core Week 1 -- February 2-7, 2006, Houston
  • Core Week 2 -- March 5-10, 2006, Houston
