The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) today provided members with a white paper authored by the NBTA Groups and Meetings Committee on Mobilizing Internal Stakeholders to help members build a successful strategic meetings management program (SMMP). The paper is the next installment in the committee’s groundbreaking series Framework for Success: Strategic Meeting Management Programs.

“Gaining buy-in from key internal stakeholders is essential to the successful development and implementation of a strategic meetings management program,” said committee co-Chair Kari Knoll Kesler; Global Manager, Meetings & Events, Honeywell, Inc. “This paper outlines an approach for identifying and engaging those stakeholders in the process of creating an SMMP.”

“Building a successful SMMP requires the support of a company’s meeting planners and of other internal stakeholder groups, such as procurement, finance, legal, and technology,” added Maddy Caliri, C.P.M.; Procurement Manager, Global Hotel, Meetings and Events, AT&T. “This paper helps those designing SMMPs evaluate the needs of the various internal customer groups, create strategies for engaging them, and understand the risks and challenges of mobilizing internal stakeholders.”

The NBTA Groups & Meetings Committee was formed in 2003 in response to NBTA member feedback indicating travel managers were increasingly expected to provide value in the corporate meetings arena. In March 2004, the committee issued Building a Strategic Meetings Management Program, the first paper in the Framework for Success: Strategic Meeting Management Programs series. Since then, the committee has authored a series of papers sourcing the air and hotel components of an SMMP and developing a meetings policy as part of an SMMP.

The entire Framework for Success: Strategic Meetings Management Programs series can be found on the NBTA website (some elements are available to NBTA members only). Members of the media interested in copies of the papers can contact the NBTA media relations team at pr@nbta.org or 703-684-0836.
