Alexandria, VA (April 6, 2005) -- The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) today provided its members with detailed information on the initiative to implement new electronic passports in the United States. The information is presented in a question and answer format, with answers provided by the U.S. Department of State in response to questions posed by NBTA.

The Association is also empowering members to voice any questions or concerns they have about the new passports. NBTA will carry those concerns to the State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs in a meeting to be held during the week of April 11, 2005. While very few NBTA members have raised questions about the new passports to date, this may become a more important topic as the introduction date for the new passports approaches.

“By opening this dialogue with the State Department, NBTA continues its longstanding practice of being the conduit of information between corporate travel professionals and government agencies and officials,” said NBTA Executive Director and COO, Bill Connors, CTC. “Much of the recent commentary on the new passports has been sensationalist. NBTA’s approach, on the other hand, is to work with our contacts in government to represent the interests of our members.”

The Q&A is divided into two topic areas: Purpose, Technology & Security and Logistics & Cost. It can be found on the NBTA website.

The National Business Travel Association is the source for critical information on the business travel industry. For more than 35 years, NBTA has dedicated itself to the professional development of its members through advocacy, education and training, and networking opportunities. NBTA represents over 2,500 corporate travel managers and travel service providers, who collectively manage and direct more than $170 billion of expenditures within the business travel industry.
