NBTA Statement on Post-GDS Deregulation Market Changes

August 27, 2004

  • Because NBTA supports solutions that lead to success for travel managers, their corporations, and suppliers of travel and related services, the Association encourages suppliers to implement policies that support travel management.

  • Feedback from NBTA members indicates that travel suppliers that use cost-recovery strategies based on back-end charges for distribution are likely to loose market share, because such charges are too complex and too costly for corporations. As travel suppliers search for the best business models, they are more likely to find success in a model that supports the role of travel managers by making any industry-wide pricing changes transparent for corporations and their travelers.

  • In the deregulated GDS environment, NBTA continues to support the ideal of distribution systems that give travel managers cost-effective access to the inventory offerings of all major travel suppliers presented in a way that allows the user to choose the best travel option. Feedback from NBTA members indicates that the distribution systems that best meet these ideals are most likely to succeed in gaining market share.

The above statement was distributed by NBTA to its members and was published on the NBTA website; it was not issued as a press release.
