Boston, MA (August 17, 2004) -- Michael C. Fogassey, CCTE, vice president of the New England Business Travel Association (NEBTA), a chapter of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), spoke today at the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) launch of the Registered Traveler Pilot Program at Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS), voicing support for the program.
NBTA has championed the pilot program since it was announced in June and for two years prior to that advocated for the introduction of such a program. An NBTA spokesperson also participated in launch of the initial pilot at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Today’s launch at BOS is the fourth of five planned by TSA.
At today’s press conference, Fogassey joined spokespeople from TSA and American Airlines. He said, “At NBTA, we know that travel security is national security. And, because we know the central role business travel plays in the American economy, we believe in strong, effective travel security that does not hinder travel or place unnecessary burdens on travelers. That’s why NBTA supports TSA’s current test of a Registered Traveler Program.”
Fogassey continued, “Improving the travel security experience will make travel more attractive, easier, and more efficient, which will make our businesses, our economy, and our country even stronger.
“When the test period is over, the National Business Travel Association, the New England Business Travel Association, corporate travel managers, and business travelers around the country hope to see the implementation of a permanent Registered Traveler program that operates on a fully voluntary basis and speeds the screening process for all travelers – particularly those frequent business travelers who elect to participate.”
The National Business Travel Association is the source for critical information on the business travel industry. For more than 35 years, NBTA has dedicated itself to the professional development of its members through advocacy, education and training, and networking opportunities. NBTA represents over 2,500 corporate travel managers and travel service providers, who collectively manage and direct more than $170 billion of expenditures within the business travel industry.
