Orlando, FL (August 2, 2004) -- The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) and the Canadian Alliance of Business Travel (CABT) today announced that CABT will become a subsidiary of NBTA, expanding the reach of both organizations and the benefits available to members of each.

“The NBTA - CABT relationship will enrich membership offerings for both groups by increasing networking opportunities between American and Canadian business travel professionals while allowing both organizations to maintain their unique identities” said Carol A. Devine, CCTE, NBTA president and CEO. “In a global economy, it is important to think globally. NBTA members will benefit from new opportunities to learn from the experiences of their Canadian counterparts.”

“CABT and NBTA join forces to the advantage of both organizations,” said Tanya N. Racz, CABT president. “Working together will expand the networking and educational offerings of both groups, and by pooling resources we will be able to better serve members of both CABT and NBTA.”

Under the arrangement, CABT members, who are travel managers, will receive the benefits of NBTA membership, including industry news provided in daily emails; access to NBTA educational opportunities; NBTA business resources, such as RFPs and white papers; and member rates to the NBTA Annual Convention and Trade Show. At the same time, CABT will remain a separate entity, run by Canadian travel managers for Canadian travel managers.

The acquisition of CABT is part of NBTA’s strategic goal to increase its global presence in order to benefit NBTA members. NBTA already plays a key role in the Paragon Partnership, an alliance of business travel associations around the world. The new relationship with CABT is another way for NBTA to meet the needs of members who have international responsibilities.

“NBTA provides unparalleled member services in the form of education and professional development, networking, and industry information,” said Devine. “Just as members of CABT will benefit from these services, NBTA will benefit from increasing the number of travel managers in the NBTA family. Additional resources coming in will strengthen our ability to provide member benefits, and the direct connection to Canadian travel managers will provide additional resources for NBTA members to tap into for industry insight and knowledge.”

Racz added, “Joining with NBTA strengthens the value proposition CABT offers its members, and as CABT membership grows, so will the value NBTA realizes from the relationship.”

The Canadian Alliance of Business Travel is an independent Canadian research and education firm dedicated to providing a cooperative environment for information exchange between purchasers and vendors of business travel. CABT is committed to providing integral benchmarking data and educational exchanges for companies in Canada and abroad to ensure their purchasing practices are consistent with those required for success in the Canadian marketplace.

The National Business Travel Association is the source for critical information on the business travel industry. For more than 35 years, NBTA has dedicated itself to the professional development of its members through advocacy, education and training, and networking opportunities. NBTA represents over 2,500 corporate travel managers and travel service providers, who collectively manage and direct more than $170 billion of expenditures within the business travel industry.
