The Washington Post, Mapping Out an Airline for a New World, 4/16/08
Executives of Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines yesterday made their case for completing a merger and creating the largest air carrier in the world. Corporate travel officers expressed mixed feelings about the merger. A majority said they thought customer service would get worse after a deal, according to a survey of travel managers that was released yesterday by the National Business Travel Association.
USA Today, Fliers Worry About Higher Fares, 4/16/08
A survey released Tuesday by the National Business Travel Association showed that 54% of its members believed that customer service of what would become the world's largest airline would be poorer, while 41% said flight frequencies to some markets would worsen. Of the 207 people responding, 46% were concerned about access to smaller U.S. markets.
"They are concerned about the prospects of declining customer service and changes in their travel management relationships with new, merged airlines," NBTA CEO Kevin Maguire says.
Purchasing Magazine, Buyers Concerned about Delta-Northwest Merger's Impact on Service, 4/15/08
...while travel managers polled recently by the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) agree a merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines will create an improved international route structure, they fear it also could negatively affect customer service in an industry already plagued with service issues.
"Travel buyers know that airline consolidation, such as the Delta-Northwest merger, can create more financially stable airlines with stronger networks, but they are concerned about the prospects of declining customer service and changes in their travel management relationships with new, merged airlines,” says Kevin Maguire, president and CEO of NBTA in Alexandria, Va.
