NBTA Board of Directors Nominations and Election

Nomination Form

NBTA’s Board elections are held each year in conjunction with our International Convention & Exposition.  We invite you to participate by nominating candidates for vacant positions.  Our election process is very open and we hope that you will choose to participate by nominating a peer—or even yourself.

In late 2006, the NBTA Direct members cast their votes in support of a bylaws change empowering Allied (supplier) Members of NBTA to elect Allied representatives to the association’s Board of Directors. Allied Members will gain two additional seats on the NBTA Board for a total of four following the 2008 Convention (the President and Vice President of the Allied Leadership Council currently sit on the Board in appointed positions). One new Allied Board Member was elected during the 2007 NBTA election cycle, and a second will be elected during the 2008 cycle. Each new Allied representative on the Board will replace a Direct Member representative whose term is expiring. After the 2008 election, the overall size of the Board will remain the same.

The Board of Directors consists of fourteen (14) Members comprised of the President & CEO, Vice President, Executive Director & COO, Chair/Immediate Past President, President of the Chapter Presidents Council, President and Vice President of the Allied Leadership, six (6) Direct members elected at large, and two (2) Allied member directors at large.

Open Position:

As this is the final Direct Member position to be replaced, one (1) Allied Director at large position is open for a term of two years to begin at the close of the Annual Convention through the close of the second succeeding annual business meeting.

No Allied Director at large may serve on the Board for more than one consecutive term. Allied Directors at large will be elected by NBTA Allied Members.

Eligibility Requirements: (As stated in Article VI of NBTA’s bylaws)

To be eligible for nomination, the following requirements must be met:

  • An Allied member that has been a NBTA member in good standing for at least three (3) years;
  • An Allied member that has been in the travel industry for at least (5) years; and
  • An Allied member that has at least one (1) year of service to the Association or local chapter.

Any Allied member of the Association may nominate a qualified Allied member or themselves to be a Director.

The Role of the Board:

The Board of Directors serves a crucial role in determining the governance of the Association.  A Director attends four (4) meetings of the Board throughout the year, and spends time deliberating on matters and policies related to the Association’s programs and services.  In addition, Board Members should expect to carry out special assignments and to make appearances at local chapter meetings or other forums where NBTA’s leadership presence is needed.

What Should a Candidate be Prepared For?

All candidates for the Board should be knowledgeable of NBTA’s programs, services and bylaws.  All candidates are asked to submit a platform statement and respond to questions.  The candidate’s platform statement and responses are published in an election brochure that is sent to all Allied Members in advance of Convention.  In addition, candidates appear at the Member Breakfast Business Session on Monday of our annual Convention, and provide a brief, three-minute statement to their peers.

All candidates must strictly agree to campaign guidelines.

In addition to the NBTA Board of Directors, Allied member positions will also serve on the NBTA Allied Leadership Council.
